TGW Provides Innovative Automated Pallet Storage & Retrieval Solution to Manufacturing Sector

2010-14-07

Many manufacturing businesses strive to free up space within their existing warehouse facilities to provide additional manufacturing space or to reduce the number of pallets held in off site storage. TGW offers those companies an innovative solution based on proven automated storage and retrieval technology that reduces the storage footprint, maximises the available headroom and reduces the labour resources required to operate the warehouse.

TGW has recently been awarded three projects using one of its innovative, automatic, high performance pallet storage and retrieval solutions. Two of the three applications are designed to handle pallets either as single unit loads or as double height loads where the palletised load characteristics allow – this effectively halves the number of pallet moves around the system. The solution is therefore very cost effective, saving space, time and money.

The three warehouse solutions use a combination of the TGW Magnus pallet stacker crane with the TGW Muli satellite storage and retrieval load handler which can store pallets up to 16 deep into the storage rack “tubes” and provides rapid pallet storage and retrieval performance.

“We have designed and developed a load recovery personnel access system for this type of application”, says Philip Steeds, Sales Director of TGW Limited. “It provides safe access for suitably qualified operators into the storage tubes to recover a failed or damaged unit load and can also be deployed in support of the maintenance and health and safety activities of the sites. The Magnus and Muli technology is used to deploy and recover the access cages from the storage tubes.”

The three projects will be installed in existing “standard” warehouse or manufacturing buildings that are less than 15 metres tall. TGW is also responsible as Principal Contractor for CDM compliance and the integration of the building services required facilitating the installation. Two of the sites will remain fully operational throughout the phased installation programme.
