Kärcher Extends Its Logistics Centre with TGW

Kärcher's logistics centre located in Obersontheim, Germany will be extended by end of 2012. Kärcher entrusted TGW with the implementation of the logistics system.

Alfred Kärcher GmbH & Co is the world's market leader for cleaning equipment that sets the benchmark for professional cleaning as well as with consumers. At its Obersontheim site, the company operates a logistics centre, which delivers spare parts and accessory parts to all continents. Until 14,000 positions per day are processed during peak season and up to 4,500 packages are conveyed daily. Due to the rapid growth of the family business, the site will be extended by about 20.000 m² floor space. Thus, Kärcher’s storage capacity will be increased remarkably, its output quantity more than doubled.

TGW Systems Integrator from Wels, Austria, was entrusted with the realisation of the logistics centre and extensive material flow controls, as well as with the system visualisation.

Apart from a new pallet storage system, the extended logistics centre will include an 8-aisle automated mini-load warehouse with 95,000 storage locations used to supply a new high-performance picking area. The highly dynamic shuttle system for 5,200 order locations will consolidate and sequence the picked order totes and deliver them to the packing area. In order to handle the required performance of up to 2,000 storage and retrieval movements per hour, TGW will be installing its Stingray shuttle system. An extensive tote conveyor system with intelligent empty tote management will connect the storage and picking areas with the packing area.

The extended system within Kärcher's logistics centre will go live end of 2012 and enable the company to cover further growth of their business in the future.
